¿Cómo determinar la radiación solar en un lugar determinado?
Techno Sun, SLU, Hugo Rodrigo Zapata :

How to know the solar radiation received by a photovoltaic installation?

In many occasions when we make a study of a solar installation, in addition to the consumption, it is important to determine the solar radiation that the installation is going to receive.

With this data we will be able to calculate how much production the installation will produce and if it will be enough for the user's needs.

To find out what the solar radiation is at a given location thanks to the address or through GPS coordinates, we have a link to the European Commission's science and knowledge service (EU Science Hub) and the Photovoltaic Geographic Information System (PVGIS).

This system is available in English, French, Italian and Spanish for any location in Europe and Africa, as well as most of Asia and the Americas.

PVGIS provides free and open access to:

  • PV potential for different technologies and configurations of grid-connected and stand-alone systems.

  • Solar radiation and temperature, as monthly averages or daily profiles.

  • Complete time series of hourly values of both solar radiation and photovoltaic yield.

  • Typical Meteorological Year data for nine climate variables.

  • Maps, by country or region, of solar resource and photovoltaic potential ready for printing.

  • In addition, PVMAPS software includes all the estimation models used in PVGIS.
